Wait! Let me fix my hair.

So you want to go natural!!!!! Woot Woot, first & foremost let me welcome you to the club :) At first this journey may seem frustrating, difficult, & just not worth it..but you are WRONG.COM. It takes patience to go natural & trust me it will all worth it in the end. This is not strictly a hair blog but since I am a naturalista, I will be sharing hair ish often. If you wana know more about my personal natural journey..you can read my "Knotty by Nature" post! (I will post the link at the bottom) Ok enough of the prep talking..let's get to the basics.

To transition or big chop??
That is completely up to you! Transitioning is basically growing your relaxer out & working with the two different textures of your hair! Big chop is well a big chop! You will cut all of your relaxed hair off,may sound drastic but most naturals actually adore their BC. I did not BC, but like I said it is your decision :)

Example of a lovely BC.

So you mean to tell me I can't wash my hair!?!
Of course you can your hair but you should definitely stay away from shampoo! Not all shampoos are created equally but most have harmful sulfates that strip your hair of the natural oils..& if you ask any natural they will tell you that retaining moisture in your hair is super important! I recommend co-washing, which is washing your hair w. only conditioner. Herbal Essences Hello Hydration & Tresemme' Naturals conditioner are great! Anyway if you can't fathom the thought of not using shampoo, I recommend Shea Moisture "curl & shine" shampoo.

Stay away from the heat!
Yes I'm sorry to piss on your flat ironing parade but that excessive use of that 450 degree heat will only annoy your curly strands. I know it's hard but try to stay away from it.

Me w. my soulmate Courts! Rocking the side puff though.
Me & my bff..hair is blown out!
Another side puff in the dressing room!

Products, final tips, & styles ideas.
When you first go natural, you may want to buy every product in sight! Every naturalista is different, so simply put different stroke for different folks. What works for me may not work for you. Going natural is usually a lot of trail and error. The products that are popular among most naturals are Miss Jessie's curly pudding (Jessie want too much $$ in my opinion), Shea Moisuture curl enhancing smoothie & curl style milk, qhemet biologics twist butter, & karen's body beautiful products! You may want to trade your old cotton scarf in for a silk one or purchase a silk pillow case. There are so many styles out there but my favorite are twists outs, braid outs, & puffs. I will post hair tutorials for each below. Also start taking biotin, it's a vitamin that aids w. hair growth. Youtube is a naturals best friend so don't hesitate to watch tutorials if you feel lost. Remember to be patient & if there is anything else you need help w. don't hesitate to ask me! Twitter: @dezzyamore Facebook: Dezzy Alexander Instagram: curlyhair_ky Email: curly.hair.ky@gmail.com
